Implant treatment

A dental implant is a process in which a new tooth (crown), bridge or denture needs to place when a patient has lost the tooth.

Types of Dental Implant Treatment

Endosteal (in the bone): A surgical titanium component is used. Implant is done by placing inside the jaw, then this implant support crown or bridge. It acts as like root of tooth is usually in the shape of a screw.

When this treatment is required:

If a patient has lost a tooth this procedure can opted. But for this treatment, patient jaw bones must be strong enough also gums should be healthy.


  •  Local anesthesia is given to the patient. Then with the help of tools gums are open.
  • Then opening is made in bones & endosteal is placed in it & gums will be closed.
  • After a few months (5 to 6 months) when jaw bone gets healed & grown into the implant, gums will be reopened and attach an abutment to the implant.
  • This abutment is the part of the implant which is above the gum & crown (or bridge ) is attached to this part & surgery is complete.
 Subperiosteal (on the bone): This type of implant lies on top of the jaw bone. It is in the form of a metal plate.
When this treatment is required: It is usually a treatment option for those patients who needs an implant to be done but has lost their jawbones.

Jaw bone loss is common with aged & calcium deficient patient.

  • Local anesthesia is given to the patient & with the help of tools, Gum tissues are open So that underlying bone can be seen.
  • Bone impression is taken so that framework can be prepared.
  • Then gum is closed again till the implant structure is ready.
  • Once the implant is ready with the help of the framework, the gum is opened again metal plate implant is placed.
  • A temporary bridge is placed till the implant is healed, once it gets healed bridge (or denture) similar to the patient's teeth color & texture is placed.
Care Instructions:
  • Brush twice a day.
  • Do not eat hard food or put pressure.
  • Regular dental check-up
  • Quit Smoking: Smoking makes bones week & is not good for an implant.
